Every child, every reader, and every learner carries the potential to grow, to rise, and to finish well. To finish well is to keep learning, keep growing, and keep believing that purpose is still ahead.

Michaellee the Person

Life is dynamic and with it comes all sorts of situations that bring laughter or plunge us into despair. However, I believe that adverse circumstances are just stepping stones on our journey.

Someone has been holding me firmly in His hands. He never let go of me. He held me firmly and securely from my childhood, through my difficult education journey and the rigours of life. I am fully persuaded that my life situations will never taint the full and perfect picture that was ordained for me.

I always marvel at creation, and gardening and landscaping are activities I am excited about. I also enjoy experimenting with ingredients, writing, and interacting with Toco, the family dog, named after one of our beaches in Trinidad and Tobago.

As for my family, I have one son and two grandchildren. I came from a large, closely knit family, and if I were ever given a chance to choose another family, I would choose each one of them all over again.

02
Author and Poet
+

I started writing because I had much to share. I found myself being drawn into deeper reflection of my own circumstances and the world in which I live.

My writing took me on a journey through my subconscious mind. It connected my thoughts with language that translated into written words, and I find this hugely gratifying.

I write to inspire retrospection and change. I write for the enjoyment of my audience. When I considered the timelessness of the life situations alluded to in I’M THINKING…, I decided to publish these poems as a contribution to the literary world.

I have since written Trees Grow Over Fences, a story of my challenging education journey, and published the poetry book Mine The Mirror as resource material for primary schools.

03
Speaker in the Field of Education
+

Sadly, the tragedy of unfulfilled dreams and aspirations can be seen when potentials remain untapped, ideas for innovation are stymied, and dreams are eventually discarded.

Speaking from my own experiences and from the background of a child who could not read at age fourteen, I know how easily people can misunderstand struggle and underachievement.

I did not know anything about my potential until I decided I was going to keep on trying. This was when the giant in me awoke.

I share my education journey in Trees Grow Over Fences with the intention to inspire, motivate, bring hope, encouragement, and even laughter to readers.

04
Education and Contribution
+

I speak from the experience of a child who was marginalised and deemed a failure in my early childhood by the education system.

Across the country, there are cries for a better education for our children. There is great concern about children who drop out of school, tired of being marginalised and experiencing the burdensome sense of failure.

My experiences have taught me that the most powerful education system is one that first seeks to understand the life stories of children.

Good education must help children understand who they are and the potential within them. It must seek to awake the giant inside of each child and tell our children that they are the gems of our nation.

05
Barrister at Law (unregistered)
+

Becoming a Barrister-at-Law (unregistered) was not initially an area of study I considered, but as time progressed, I became interested in the legal system and decided to pursue qualification in this area.

Subsequent to obtaining a Post Graduate Degree in Law at the University of North London, I became a student at Inner-City School of Law and a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

I was later Called to the Bar and qualified as a Barrister-at-Law (unregistered) in England and Wales. My area of interest is Civil Law, though my passion has always been working in the field of education, hence my interest in Education Law.

I find great satisfaction in being able to make informed contributions about rights, privileges, fairness, and equal opportunities in education.

06
The Parent
+

I am constantly fascinated by the miracle of life and feel honoured to be endowed with the awesome responsibility of parenting.

I see parenting as a fascinating journey that continues way into adulthood. To this end, I strive to do my very best, while recognising my human limitations.

In a world where there is so much talk about finding one’s identity, it seems logical to me that the starting point must be with our Maker.

I therefore point my son and grandchildren to God’s grace so they will be guided by the Greatest, even in my absence.
